Patterned curtains at three sets of garden doors in an open-plan kitchen and dining room

Curtains

Curtains made to your measurements, in fabrics you choose from the sample books at your own window. We measure, the makers sew, and the person who measured comes back and hangs them.

Made-to-measure curtains

Curtains sewn to your exact drop and width, lined or interlined, in a heading style that suits the room: pencil pleat, pinch pleat, eyelet or wave. They work anywhere you want softness, warmth or blackout, from a small bedroom window to a full wall of glass. At the visit we bring the fabric books, measure every window ourselves and give you a written price before you order, including tie-backs, holdbacks and trimmings if you want them.

Poles and tracks

Wooden and metal poles, corded and uncorded tracks, and bent-to-shape tracks for bay windows. The fixing matters as much as the product: heavy interlined curtains need a pole or track screwed into something solid, not just plasterboard. We check what your wall will take at the visit and fit everything level and true.

Voile and sheer curtains

Voiles and sheers are lightweight unlined curtains that filter the daylight and keep a room private during the day. They hang on their own at a landing or bathroom window, or behind heavier curtains so you get privacy by day and blackout at night. Sheers look best gathered generously, so we work out the fullness at the visit and hang them on their own track or the back rail of a double pole.

Pelmets

A pelmet is a fabric-covered board fitted above the window that hides the track and tidies the top of the curtains. It suits bay windows, tall period rooms and anywhere a bare track would spoil the look, and it can be made in the curtain fabric or a contrast. We measure the return and projection at the visit so the curtains draw freely behind it.

Valances

A valance is a short length of gathered or shaped fabric hung across the top of the window. It is softer than a boxed pelmet, and made in the curtain fabric or a contrast. It hides the track, adds height to a window and suits bedrooms and traditional rooms. We work out the drop at the visit so it sits in proportion with the curtains and does not eat into the daylight.

Swags and tails

Swags and tails are a traditional dressing: fabric draped across the top of the window with shaped tails falling down each side. They suit tall windows in period homes, over full-length curtains or on their own. Every set is cut to the individual window, so at the visit we measure up and talk through fabrics and linings before anything is made.

Door curtains

A door curtain is a heavy, usually interlined curtain hung over a front or back door to cut the draught and the noise from outside. It hangs on a portière rod that swings with the door, so the door still opens freely and the curtain is never trapped. We check the swing and the floor clearance at the visit, because the hem has to clear the threshold without dragging.
